It is my opinion that pharmacy tech is a good opportunity to see if you would be interested in pharmacy as a career. It also demonstrates to an employer that you are trustworthy and good at detail in your work.

From the environment you will pick up information on medical issues and drugs. This may spur you to explore other health care fields.

The time limit is really not an issue - if it pays the bills and you like it, stay with it until you decide to move on to something else.

I have known and worked with pharmacists who began as pharmacy techs.

My sister was a chemical engineering major in college and always wanted to be an OBGYN. But then she got married and things changed around for her and she decided to go to pharmacy school instead. Being a pharmacist is her end game, but shes got a lot of work left.
Pharmacy Technicians make from $30,000-$40,000 where a Certified pharmacist could make more in the range of $103,000-$123,000.
A main factor to condsier is that it requires vastly more schooling to be a pharmacist.
The minimum training a technician would need is on the job. A full fledged pharmacist most often will have a doctorate and state certification.
I would say though that the technician choice is a nice middle step for those ambitious few on their way to the top and also a nice goal for those of us happy with what we have.
